Position Summary: MICA seeks a creative, strategic, self-motivated and detail-oriented marketing professional to help the Open Studies academic unit to increase name recognition, attract qualified applicants and registrants, strengthen enrollment, and grow revenue. The assistant director supports the director of marketing and recruitment in creating and implementing an integrated marketing and communications plan.  Open Studies serves regional (Baltimore/Washington), national, and international student markets.  Programming includes professional graduate programs in the Business of Art and Design, Data Analytics and Visualization, UX Design, and Design Leadership, the Young People’s Studios programs (K-12 art and design classes), Pre-College Art and Design Summer Residency (a college-level program for gifted high school students), Community Education/Professional Practices (programming in support of creative expression and career acceleration for lifelong learners),  programs in support of the college’s DEIG goals (e.g. MICA's Art & Design College Accelerator Program (ADCAP)) which provides a pathway to high-quality art and design college education for gifted Baltimore City students who face financial challenges and are from diverse backgrounds), and short-term international travel programs.  

 

General purpose: The assistant director, marketing and recruitment works to ensure that Open Studies has strong enrollment and attracts qualified students.  

 

Position responsibilities:

Open Studies serves a diverse student body of traditional and non-traditional college students, art and design professionals, lifelong learners, teens, and children. The unit administers four unique professional graduate programs in the Business of Art and Design, Data Analytics and Visualization, UX Design, and Design Leadership along with studio-based art and design classes for adults, teens, and children, short-term travel programs, and programs in support of the college’s diversity and internationalization goals.  As MICA’s educational venture space, Open Studies is engaged in innovating academic programming (including digital education, new curricular areas and program structures, and programs for non-traditional students) and revenue growth.  The assistant director, marketing and recruitment will:  

Project management duties:

• Planning and defining scope of projects

• Establishing and project sequencing/schedules/timing

• Resource planning

• Cost Estimating

• Documentation

• Project monitoring and progress reporting

• Manage and maintain effective communication between project stakeholders 

Copywriting and quality assurance duties

• Writing marketing copy (articles, press releases, social media, email marketing, website, printed collateral, etc.)

• Line copy editing of marketing and related copy

• Managing quality assurance among and between media and platforms including MICA’s learning management system

• Assisting other Open Studies staff with writing, review, and updating departmental materials
   

Market research duties

• Monitoring the market for trends related to Open Studies programming

• Creating/deploying data collection tools and methods about consumers, competitors, and market conditions

• Providing analyze of relevant data sets

Perform other duties as assigned

Essential skills and experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Advertising or equivalent 3-5 years of relevant experience

• Excellent verbal and written communications skills

• Demonstrated professional experience in marketing and/or recruitment

• Knowledge of and competence in current trends in higher education marketing

• Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills and the ability to work independently and as a member of a team

• Knowledge of project management tools and/or software

• Ability to analyze and evaluate data

• Collaborative, proactive style, with excellent human relations skills

• Detail oriented and deadline driven work ethic

• Knowledge of design aesthetics & design software (e.g. InDesign, Photoshop) 

• Ability to keep and manage annual calendars of events, targets, and activities

 

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience/practice with visual communication and design

• Experience with CRM, Google Analytics, Google Search Console

• Background in or knowledge of art and design education

 Required training: Handbook orientation, Anti-Harassment, Hazard Communication, Emergency Plans & Fire Prevention, Personal Protection Equipment. (Additional training may be added, SEE: EHS Manager training schedule)
