Norfolk State University, a NCAA Division I institution, is seeking applicants for the Director of Marketing and Corporate Relations. This candidate will play an integral role in prospecting, cultivating, soliciting, and retaining corporate sales and/or contributions directly related to Athletics. Additionally, this position will develop marketing and development strategies to drive revenue, attendance, ticket sales, multi-media and in-game promotions. The position will report to the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Administration.
Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Development and implementation of a comprehensive marketing and sponsorship plan for the Department of Athletics; Direct all advertising outlets, including print, radio, TV, billboards, social media, etc.; Development and implementation of a comprehensive sponsorship plan; Plan and direct event and game management activities for all Norfolk State University home athletic events, including special events, anthem performers, halftime acts, and giveaways; Work closely with Sr. Associate Athletics Director on fulfillment of corporate sponsorship requirements; Prepare program budget recommendations on an annual basis; Monitor expenditures throughout the year to ensure fiscal responsibility.
Primary responsibilities include:
a) Generate revenues through sponsorship packages (including sales of video-board presence, venue signage, radio, television and print advertising, game day sponsorships and promotional opportunities), webcast subscriptions, ticket sales, and merchandising.
b) Create and implement the department's overall marketing and promotional strategy.
c) Develop strategies for improving attendance and the overall fan experience at home events.
d) Significant involvement in overall departmental strategic planning.
A bachelor’s degree is required, Master’s degree strongly preferred. Candidate should have at least three years of related experience in marketing, promotions, corporate sales, as well as demonstrated success in generating new revenues. Candidate must have good organizational, written and oral communication, and time management skills; and the ability to take on multiple tasks and work independently or in a team setting. Must also be available to travel for certain special events and be willing to work nights and weekends depending on the game schedules for particular sports.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in Division I college athletics department. Candidate should have at least five years of related experience in marketing, promotions, corporate sales, as well as demonstrated success in generating new revenues
