Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, English, or related field plus 3 years of communications/marketing account services required. Experience in higher education or health care environment preferred. Excellent written skills (copy, feature, proposal writing), also oral communication, interpersonal, organizational, computer literacy, and and presentation skills required. Project management experience showing organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities required. Job Standard / Operational Needs: The Assistant Director for Marketing & University Communications serves as a primary message developer/translator/communicator for Upstate materials, including Upstate's colleges, biomedical research and clinical enterprises, with a special emphasis to support student recruitment for the colleges and to support the education mission. Working directly with key Upstate clients, the Assistant Director will provide a range of communication services, including: creating compelling institutional content; assessing, organizing and producing communication materials for a variety of audiences; writing copy and working with graphic design team members on publications, electronic products and advertising; and spearheading other projects or events that advance the goals and image of the medical university. In addition, the Assistant Director is responsible for assessing the market and creating custom communication plans and solutions for student recruitment for each degree program, and will oversee the campus writer toward this end.
