Advancement & External Relations, has an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant VC for Marketing & Communications.This individual will be responsible for:
Provide leadership and oversight of all aspects of UW Bothell marketing and communications efforts with special emphasis on communications in support of fundraising and student recruitment.
Provide direction for the marketing and communications unit including brand management, strategic planning, operational oversight, fiscal planning, and supervision and development of staff.
Establish and maintain operational budgets and assume discretionary authority over marketing and communications expenditures.
Develop, in coordination with senior leadership and communications staff, strategic goals for integrated public relations efforts, coordinated donor communication efforts, brand strategy and implementation, online communications strategy and marketing strategy for the campus that include metrics to illustrate message and channel performance and budget alignment.
Oversee the writing, editing, design, and production of development communication materials, including all web- and social media-based formats.
Participate on task forces, committees, and forums that address the role of marketing and communications in the University of Washington Bothell and throughout the University of Washington.
Design and implement integrated public relations efforts to capture free media through broader journalistic channels, maximize stakeholder relationships and advance the public mission of UW and the University of Washington Bothell.
Use experience and professional judgment to identify, plan for, and advise on decisions related to controversial, sensitive and time-sensitive issues.
Provide expert public relations counsel and media training as needed to senior leadership, faculty and staff.
Develop and implement an internal and external communications program for the chancellor that is appropriate to his or her various constituencies and that maximizes the effectiveness of the chancellor's leadership role. Optimize that strategy to reach and influence key constituencies, including students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, opinion leaders, and legislators.
Create, implement, and evaluate key messages and themes for the campus and its donor audiences.
Create and write compelling case statements that describe the need for private philanthropy in a public university setting. Develop and produce other fund-raising brochures and materials as necessary to meet communication objectives.
Create and implement significant events working with high-level volunteers and major gift donors. Work in cooperation with the Associate Vice Chancellor for Advancement to promote development (campaign) messages. Work cooperatively with the Office of Alumni Engagement to enhance the programs and activities that engage alumni and friends in the University.
Create inventive, innovative vehicles that will engage donors' interests and effectively provide them with information.
Serve as brand manager for the campus, ensuring that all marketing and communications efforts support an effective, consistent brand position optimized to attract new student enrollment, alumni loyalty and community support.
Coordinate UW Bothell's brand and marketing efforts with those of the overall University of Washington, ensuring that UW Bothell's brand on the one hand rests within the larger university brand platform but that on the other hand is sufficiently distinctive in comparison to the other two campuses and other universities in Washington.
Develop and implement an internal communications strategy that supports positive, human-centered and high performance workplace and academic cultures at UW Bothell.
| Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field. |
At least eight years of senior level experience in higher education advancement, marketing, communications or related field; equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may substitute for degree.
Outstanding writing and storytelling skills, including interviewing for and writing human interest stories and profiles; six representative writing samples required.
Extensive writing and editing experience, with a variety of print and online communications media.
Demonstrated strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for correspondence, special reports, spreadsheets, databases, forms, etc.; working knowledge of Prezi and other presentation platforms a plus.
Demonstrated ability to establish, cultivate and steward through communication channels; strong relationships with alumni, donors and friends to build and maintain partnerships and trust with the institution.
Demonstrated ability and commitment to managing, developing, mentoring and coaching staff and colleagues.
Demonstrated ability to work successfully, with executive leadership, external boards and high level volunteers.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate objectives, energize and inspire staff to achieve results and meet goals while creating a culture of collaboration within direct teams and across organizational units and build and maintain positive relationships. Professional manner with the ability to express oneself clearly and empathetically in interactions with others in all forms of communications, verbal and written, one-on-one and group, etc.; ability to communicate in a direct and professional manner that engages dialog in a manner that resolves differences.
Demonstrated ability to develop, manage and achieve comprehensive team goals; ability to accurately forecast and develop both short-term and long-term goals.
Demonstrated ability to manage conflicts proactively, collaboratively and build consensus with the interest of the organization in mind.
Ability to work independently, problem solve, take initiative, set priorities and handle multiple projects efficiently and effectively; demonstrated creativity, organizational ability, and strong attention to detail. Ability to make decisions in ambiguous situations, exercise good judgment based on information and analysis in a fast pace, dynamic, deadline drive environment in an organized and professional manner.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidences and protect confidential information; acts in a selfless manner and models ethical values of the UW.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
