University Advancement has an outstanding opportunity for a Marketing Automation Specialist
The Marketing Automation Specialist, working within University Advancement, is responsible for designing, composing, and launching automated marketing campaigns using UW's marketing automation platform, Marketo, on behalf of the University of Washington as a whole or on behalf of a school, college or program, in support of the University's marketing and communications goals.
University Advancement operates in a hub and spoke arrangement, with central and constituent units of the University. The Marketing Automation Specialist will design and carry out marketing campaigns on behalf of both central and constituent units of the University, track and report on marketing analytics and ROI. This position will also collaborate with central Advancement Services to establish and reinforce data governance standards, assist with root cause troubleshooting, and serve as a SME for the training program. The Marketing Automation Specialist will utilize, and assist with maintenance of, UW branded digital marketing templates and best practices of University Marketing & Communications, which is a central unit of University Advancement.
Duties and Responsibilities
Marketing Campaign Production
The Marketing Automation Specialist will design Email, Default, Event and Engagement Programs in Marketo, reflecting the needs and opportunities defined by Central Advancement including University Marketing & Communications (UMAC), utilizing industry best practices, in a complex hub and spoke organizations with many constituent units having disparate resources and abilities to engage with a marketing automation platform. This position is a Marketo Certified Expert and will tailor the Marketo platform's capabilities to utilize the base CRM data and integrations provided by Information Management for building SmartLists and engagement streams to improve and maximize the engagement of UW's friends, alumni, donors, employees, prospective students, and other audiences and stakeholders.
The complexity of the UW structure and involvement in marketing and engagement on many levels throughout the University creates the need for strict data governance and best practice reinforcement, using standards set by Information Management and the Marketo implementation team. Approve all Email programs for all users in units without a distributed power user resource.
Marketo Marketing Automation Program Consultation
The Marketing Automation Specialist will assist Marketing power users distributed throughout the University at diverse levels with designing and launching Email, Default, Event and Engagement Programs on behalf of their units. This assistance will take the form of consultation and training reinforcement in order to promote effective use of overall marketing and Marketo platform best practices.
Analytics and Reporting
He or she will collaborate with the Advancement Analytics team to evaluate our audience engagement trends with respect to lead engagement scores across different segmentations. Along with University Marketing & Communications (UMAC) the Marketing Automation Specialist will track digital asset engagement metrics in order to tailor increasingly effective overall marketing strategies.
Collaborate with HelpDesk staff to troubleshoot root causes of issues, using the ticket system to track resolutions.
Serve as a SME for the Advancement training team; assist with evaluation of training outcomes, making recommendations for amendments to training curricula.

Bachelor's degree in Business, Communications, Computer Science or related field and three years' of experience in Business, Communications, Computer Science, Marketo or related field. Equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may substitute for degree.
Experience in digital marketing/marketing automation, preferably within a complex organization.
Working knowledge of HTML.
Demonstrated strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for correspondence, special reports, spreadsheets, databases, forms, etc.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Certified Marketo expert.
Experience working in higher education.
Experience utilizing marketing automation strategies within a complex organization with distributed responsibility for marketing programs.
Knowledge of alumni relations/development/advancement principles.
Knowledge of UW Advancement policies and procedures, including use of the development database software Advance.
