Amazon Catalyst at the University of Washington provides students, faculty, and staff of all trades, fields, and disciplines with funding and mentorship to help them grow early-stage ideas into successful endeavors. We have an outstanding opportunity for an Amazon Catalyst Marketing and Communications Manager to be responsible for marketing and communication of the Amazon Catalyst program to University faculty, staff and students as well as the general public.
Reporting directly to the Associate Director of Marketing and Communications at CoMotion, this position will help drive the development, execution and evaluation of marketing and communications programs designed to increase awareness of Amazon Catalyst in the UW community and meet or exceed the goals for the number of quality applications to the fund. This position will also focus on helping to drive marketing and communications efforts for CoMotion Labs, CoMotion's startup incubators.
The primary functions of this position are:
(1) plan, coordinate, and execute marketing plan development and implementation for Amazon Catalyst including website updates, direct marketing and digital communications, (2) initiate and target a diverse audience composed of University faculty, staff, and students, (3) advertise and promote news and events to the audiences via email, Mailchimp, Twitter, Facebook and external community calendars, (4) write, edit and create blogs/excerpts/newsworthy content about Amazon Catalyst milestones, news and current awardees, and (5) garner positive news coverage in key education, regional and UW publications and 6) collect feedback from the audience and reengage them through follow-up communication.
For the CoMotion Labs portion of the role, the candidate will help plan, coordinate and execute marketing and communications strategies to support the organization's goals. These include: writing blog posts about CoMotion Labs startups and events; making website updates; conducting direct marketing and social media campaigns; creating digital and print communications; advertising and promoting events; and garnering positive news coverage.

CoMotion at UW manages Amazon Catalyst which provides students, faculty, and staff of all trades, fields, and disciplines with funding and mentorship to help them grow early-stage ideas into successful endeavors.
This position will help develop a strategic marketing and communications strategy that is essential to increasing awareness of this fund with students, faculty and staff as well as for forming positive perceptions of it. The goal of these efforts is to increase the number and quality of applicants to Amazon Catalyst in order to nurture and expand the entrepreneurial ecosystem for all people in greater Seattle and to develop solutions to key problems facing the world today.
Additionally, the responsibilities of this position will include the build out of the Amazon Catalyst Fellows program. The goal of these efforts would be to: increase the stature and prestige of becoming an Amazon Catalyst Fellow; leverage the growing community of Fellows to create a collaborative network for each other and others in the innovation ecosystem; and create ways to honor and increase awareness of this group within the UW community and beyond.
Communications Strategy and Marketing Communications (45%)
Develops and implements a comprehensive communications strategy focused on raising awareness of Amazon Catalyst and its benefits with UW faculty, students and staff.
Develop, write and produce digital and print communications content, including blog posts.
Expand the Amazon Catalyst audience through careful research of contacts, networks, and group interests, then refining communications to better target these groups.
Edit website for accurate, timely and engaging content.
Create marketing communications and ensure materials adhere to brand standards.
Analyze and report on campaigns and events, evaluating response rates and KPIs; make recommendations for optimizing results.
Collaborate with CoMotion and GIX marketing activities to leverage each other's efforts when it makes sense.
Ensure consistency in messaging and branding in all printed and digital sources, and all other forms of internal and external marketing and communication materials.
Media Relations (15%)
Works independently with external media to identify appropriate reporters and pitch story ideas, providing reporters with background information, story sources and other materials needed to produce stories.
Social Media (10%)
Manage integrated communications across social media channels, especially Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Plan, organize and direct event activities that will encourage support for Amazon Catalyst.
Attend student, faculty, departmental, and Seattle start-up community events to network and promote Amazon Catalyst.
Project Management (10%)
Create and monitor project schedules to ensure timely and coordinated execution
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's Degree in communications, marketing, development, public relations, or event and program management or a related field AND 2-3 years of related experience.
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Proficiency using PC computers to include Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for correspondence, special reports, spreadsheets, databases, forms, etc.
Flexible and adaptable to changes with little or no notice.
Strong interpersonal skills and customer service to include the demonstrated ability to express oneself clearly in interactions with others in all forms of communications, verbal and written, one-on-one and group, etc. Ability to communicate in a direct and professional manner that resolves differences.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
