It is the academic mission of the George Washington University's School of Business (GWSB) to be a pre-eminent business school recognized for scholarly research, teaching excellence, innovative curricula and focused on the responsible management of organizations in the global environment. In support of this mission, the F.David Fowler Career Center is searching for a Sr. Career Consultant, Graduate Marketing. This individual is a key contributor to providing high quality customer service to meet the career management needs of GWSB students.
The position reports to the Director of Graduate Career Management. This position does not have direct reports but may supervise student workers.
The primary focus for this position is creating, developing, and maintaining relationships with graduate students in order to be viewed as a confidante in their job search. As a functional expert with industry experience, the career consultant will provide coaching and career education to help students successfully target a career in a marketing.
The key responsibilities for this position are:
Utilizes coaching techniques, conducts mock interviews (behavioral and technical). Creates and delivers career-related training
Gathers, tracks and maintains detailed records of student coaching and employment activities.
Stays current in market practices and trends; provides relevant insight to students seeking a career in marketing.
Develops marketing-specific curriculum to enhance student education and market-readiness.
Serves as liaison with marketing professors.
Participates in Career Center events including, but not limited to Panels, Career Fairs, Company Site visits in DC and NYC.
Partners with students to create a step by step customized action plan to address career search, identify career goals and target companies.
Provides critical feedback to students on their resumes and cover letters.
Enjoys working with a high performing team as well as independently in achieving results.
Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Most administrative workers are not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
Prefer 2+ years of relevant experience in marketing such as brand management, product management, digital marketing, communications, marketing analytics, business development or similar.
Master's degree preferred, but not required.
Strategic thinker with strong organizational and time management skills.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong presentation skills.
A self-starter that thrives in an entrepreneurial environment.
Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Experience working with students, faculty, staff or business professionals in a team environment.
Project management experience preferred.
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
